Have you ever wondered about the inner workings of AI, specifically what’s happening behind the scenes? Wonder no more because I’m sharing this unique perspective, which can be best described as a spreadsheet filled with floating point numbers. The question you might be asking is: Can Google Spreadsheets create a machine learning scenario?
The answer is a resounding yes! I’ve developed a spreadsheet model using Google’s mathematical resources to train an AI system to operate a XOR operator with almost 100% accuracy. We have input data and output results; when the values match on either side of the operator, the output is false or zero. For example, if you have true,true or false, false, the output would be zero. if the values differ, the XOR operator would output as true or one.
We are using this data to train an AI to consistently provide correct outputs. Importantly, you can see every step of the training process, all the cycles and applied learnings that go into the output predictions. Although we started with a bias of 0.5, which typically resulted in ambiguous outputs, we found that the training significantly sharpened the system’s predictive power over time.
This training process is reflected in a visual graph on the spreadsheet, where we can clearly see the system’s improved accuracy over time, eventually reaching 100% accuracy. Also, the model allows us to measure the distance between actual and predicted answers, which helps us fine-tune the system continuously. After scrolling through the model, you can distinguish between the untrained and fully trained model weights, which are essentially the answers according to the AI. The magic in AI is in identifying patterns that align perfectly with our targeted input and outputs.
The result? With more targeted training, our AI becomes smarter, providing highly accurate responses consistently, especially within predefined parameters.
