Nowadays, we can see drones on every corner. Some of them are used in private life “just for fun” or to take photos and videos with a drone and capture aerial footage of the perfect moment from any angle high above the wedding ceremony.
On a field, they are used as tactical weapons of war. In this video, I had a fun with my student by showing them on how to compromise drones and how important it is to know what could happen once they are overtaken. I will demonstrate how a simple attack can be used to compromise the drone. The Kali Linux operating system and a Wi-Fi USB adapter are the primary tools I use. The drone has a photo camera, and I’ve connected it to my phone. A drone can be hacked in a variety of ways. Malicious actors can use many tactics to crash a drone (cause the damage to hardware and any other infrastructure), and to intercept the data (video/sound/images) from the drone or its base station (it could be your phone). Technically said, hacking a drone isn’t all that challenging, and many drone owners leave them vulnerable to attack. For us, it is important to know the consequences once we are using a drone. Just as a reminder, you never know who is “listening” on the other side, so be careful when using such a technology.
